There’s a reason why liposuction has only increased in popularity since its advent some 50 years ago—it works. But no matter how popular the treatment, with time and advancements in the cosmetic surgery field, there’s always room for improvement.
Lipo360 is just that improvement, marking a long stride forward in the evolution of traditional liposuction. At Balto Plastic Surgery of Miami, FL, we’re leading the frontier in liposuction advancements with this revolutionary approach.
In this guide to all things Lipo360, we’ll review how the procedure differs from traditional liposuction, who is eligible, what results to expect, and more so that you can make a confidently informed choice on your treatment.
Introducing Lipo360
In order to best understand how Lipo360 differs from traditional liposuction, it’s best to quickly review and summarize how each procedure works.
Traditional Liposuction: In this procedure, a special tube (called a cannula) is inserted through small incisions made in the intended treatment area. Using manual force (of the cannula), vibration, a tumescent solution, ultrasound, and/or one of several other methods, the underlying fatty tissue in the area is broken up. Then, it is extracted through the tube, and the treatment site is cleaned and bandaged.
Lipo360: This procedure builds on traditional liposuction to provide more comprehensive results throughout the body. Where traditional liposuction typically removes fat cells from one area only, Lipo360 uses a more holistic approach, contouring several locations at once to better recontour the entire midsection (among other areas).
Both of these treatments are often applied to the following areas, with the main difference being that Lipo360 is applied to multiple at the same time:
- Love handles
- Stomach
- Chest
- Lower back
- Hips
- Thighs
- Arms
By treating multiple areas at once, Lipo360 not only ensures a greater overall loss of fatty tissue, but it also ensures that these changes are all made in proportion with each other to create a natural-looking slimmed-down aesthetic.
Who Is Eligible for Lipo360?
It’s important to note that neither traditional liposuction nor Lipo360 are intended for dramatic weight reduction purposes, unlike bariatric surgery. Rather, each is aimed at significantly reducing the appearance of stubborn fat deposits that respond poorly to conventional weight reduction methods like dieting and exercise.
In other words, even for patients who would otherwise be cleared for liposuction in a strictly medical sense, if expectations of treatment exceed its weight reduction capacity, it may be best to seek other options.
Speaking of medical factors that may affect your eligibility for Lipo360, there are certain health conditions, lifestyle practices, medications, and more which may interfere with the treatment. These include, but are not limited to:
- Smoking
- Planning to become pregnant soon
- Certain medications (especially anticoagulants and NSAIDs)
- Various health conditions (bleeding disorders, diabetes, immune disorders, etc.)
- Poor skin elasticity.
Not every one of these factors guarantees your ineligibility for Lipo360 or standard liposuction, but it’s important you share any potential concerns with a licensed provider before undergoing Lipo360 treatment. Our team at Balto Plastic Surgery keeps safety at the forefront of every patient-centered treatment plan.
How to Maximize Your Results
While the fat cells targeted by Lipo360 are in fact permanently removed, that doesn’t mean it’s impossible for the remaining cells to expand. For this reason, poor dieting practices following Lipo360 treatment can still cause a regression.
Looking first at the long-term picture, the best way to maximize your results with Lipo360 is to simply follow the same weight maintenance and general well-being practices recommended to everyone else: sleep, hydration, stress, exercise, and diet should all be carefully regulated to remain at optimal levels.
In the acute post-treatment phase, compression garments and lymphatic drainage massages may facilitate the healing process. Conversely, drinking alcohol and smoking may inhibit the healing process, so it is best to abstain after your treatment.
Lipo360 FAQ
How Long Do Lipo360 Results Last?
In one sense, the results are permanent. This is because Lipo360 permanently removes fat cells from targeted areas. However, weight gain can still occur in the area due to expansion of the remaining fat cells.
Is Lipo360 Painful?
During the procedure, it is very rare for patients to report any significant amount of pain, thanks to the anesthesia. Most patients report mild to moderate pain following the treatment (swelling, tightness, and bruising are common), but this is typically well-managed with prescribed pain medication.
What About Risks and Side Effects?
Lipo360 has a good safety profile, but side effects outside of routine swelling and bruising are still possible, if rare. These include possible infection, skin sensation and/or tone changes, and adverse reactions to anesthesia. A competent provider will assess your unique risk factors for these potential side effects and manage them accordingly during the evaluation and planning phases.
Does Insurance Cover Lipo360?
The majority of insurance carriers classify liposuction as cosmetic and/or elective, and therefore do not cover the procedure. If liposuction is required as part of a reconstructive surgery, or for lipedema, on the other hand, insurance companies may offer coverage.
Does Liposuction Cause Sagging Skin?
Skin is typically elastic enough to compensate for liposuction without sagging. In cases of poor skin laxity and/or larger fat deposit removal, sagging skin is more likely, but is generally uncommon.
